What Is the Incorrect Workstation Setup?
The setup in which your back is always straight, arms and wrists are angled upward, feet do not rest flat on the floor, and workstation monitor positioned too close to the eyes is considered the incorrect method of setting up a workstation. With prolonged use of such a setup, you may feel recurring pains in the knees, the wrists, neck and the lower back.

1) Find the Right Desk
Never consider investing in a desk with no keyboard tray. As desks are generally higher than our arm height, the wrists are often titled upward. Long use of the keyboard in this manner can result in pressing down on the carpal tunnel vein and it can eventually lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
2) Keep the Workstation at Eye Level
As long as your workstation is placed at eye level, there will never be unexpected pain in your neck. Great desks are designed to keep standard workstation monitors at eye level. However, if they are not at eye level, adjust the height of your seat accordingly. Secondly, always keep the monitor at arm’s length from the eyes to avoid strain on your eyes.
3) Buy a Chair with Flexible Back and Arm Rest
Your workstation chair makes all the difference. It must have an adjustable height as the eye to workstation monitor height varies for different people. Armrests are important for workstation chairs as it often prevents us from leaning forward. They also keep your elbows at the right angle. The chair should keep the back flexible and it should recline when necessary. Most back pains related to work stations are caused when the back is kept rigid and upright for long hours of the day.
4) Adjustable Height of Chair Keeps Legs and Feet Happy
When you sit at a workstation, your knee angle should be 90 degrees, i.e. the lower legs should be vertical while the upper leg should be horizontal. To allow occasional rest for the feet, buy an angled footrest for good flow of blood in the feet. Ask for a chair with a lumber or lower back support to keep you comfortable in the chair for long hours.
While these rules help you choose the right workstation chair and equipment, which will prevent long term muscular, vascular and bone diseases, it is preferred to take a break from the workstation every half an hour. Take a short stroll for 2 minutes to stretch out the legs. You may also practice small ergonomic exercises to keep the muscles stretched.
